The only way out is through
A struggling sugarcane farm in mercurial North Queensland. A grieving Pandora refuses to leave, determined to honour the loss of her mother and sister. Her brother, Peter, weary and adrift, does not dare protest. The once-thriving family home is now a ruin—its peeling wallpaper collapsing under the weight of memories too painful to name. And William, the ambitious boy next door, thinks he has found a solution to all their familial wounds. A meditation on isolation and intergenerational trauma, The Cane unearths the ghosts that linger in forgotten places and the quiet, consuming power of isolation. It is a haunting exploration of grief, survival, and the inescapable pull of the past.
