If you knew the world was about to end, would you try to stop it? Or run toward it with open arms?

Minola Theatre proudly presents The True Midnight Cry, the powerful new drama by award-winning playwright Bianca Butler Reynolds. An intimate and intense two-hander, this play juxtaposes the historical events of the religious Millerite movement of 1840s New England with a startling vision of surveillance statehood in near-future Australia. As the Millerites calculate the specific date of the Second Coming of Christ, their counterparts in the future grapple with the ethics of technology that can predict acts of mass violence. Will faith or science be the key to ensuring the survival of the human race? Or is one the shadowy mirror of the other, with great capacity for harm?

Under the skilful direction of Kat Dekker, The True Midnight Cry features playwright Bianca Butler Reynolds in the roles of Inez/Mila, alongside acclaimed Jagera actor Colin W Smith in the roles of Thaddeus/Conrad. Cerebral and challenging, this modern epic poses powerful questions about free will, trauma and the perils of over-certainty.

Minola Theatre is delighted to return to the PIP Theatre stage following their rave-reviewed 2025 production of Love you hate you drive you wild.
